"Aleutian Tiger"
Artist: James Havens
Oil on Canvas 3ft X 6ft
circa April 15, 2015
Anchorage, Alaska
This painting, by renowned artist James Havens, was commissioned by Mr. Sean Carlos of Alaska Island Air. Sean, a third-generation Alaskan bush pilot, currently operates out of Southwest Alaska, specifically in the village of Togiak. This artwork symbolizes his great grandfather, who bravely flew combat missions during World War II and was a member of the celebrated group known as the "Aleutian Tigers." The Aleutian Tigers of the 343rd Fighter Group fought valiantly in one of the harshest environments of the Second World War within the Aleutian island chain of Alaska. Like the Flying Tigers in China, the Aleutian Tigers also piloted the P-40 Warhawk, and their leadership came from Lt. Col. Jack Chennault, son of the Flying Tigers’ legendary leader, General Claire Chennault. For those who appreciate James Havens' art, Giclée prints of this remarkable painting are also available.
