Alaska’s First Pterosaur:
The Denali Pterosaur’s bone-rattling call echoes across the flats as it glides over a herd of Hadrosaurs, leaving a trackway in the wet mud that will be discovered in what is now Denali National Park, Alaska, 70 million years ago.
“Denali Pterosaur, Cretaceous Alaska” features the magnificent pterosaur that left a hand impression recognized in Denali National Park in July of 2009. This groundbreaking discovery marked the first confirmed documentation of pterosaurs this far north, representing a significant milestone in Alaskan paleontology and Cretaceous Alaska art.
By the recommendations of the noted paleontologist Tony Fiorillo, the Denali Pterosaur was modeled after a Quetzalcoatlus sp., related to the giants found in Texas, as shown at the Houston Museum of Natural History. Additionally, a new species of prehistoric stork, “Magnoavipes Denaliensis,” is included, named after the park for a bird that left especially large tracks recently discovered in Denali National Park, Alaska.
